Paris Chen is an outstanding clarinetist and passionate music educator from New Zealand, bringing together professional performance experience, academic excellence and a creative approach to teaching.

 

Paris graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, one of Australia’s leading music institutions, where she studied clarinet performance under renowned clarinet professor Frank Celata. During her studies, Paris achieved outstanding recognition as Principal Clarinet of the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Clarinet Ensemble, demonstrating her exceptional musicianship and leadership as a young performer.

As an active performer, Paris has gained extensive international experience. In 2024, she toured Japan and South Korea with the Sydney Conservatorium Wind Ensemble, participating in professional concerts and masterclasses. She has studied with internationally acclaimed clarinetists including Edgar Heßke, Christian Stene, Michael Collins and David Griffiths.

 

Paris has also been recognised for her academic and musical achievements, receiving placement on the Dean’s List for Academic Excellence in 2022. In her professional development, she was invited in 2024 to perform as Associate Principal Clarinet and Bass Clarinet Principal with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Youth Orchestra, and has received multiple awards at the Sydney Eisteddfod.

 

Beyond her achievements as a performer, Paris is a dedicated educator who believes that every student learns differently. She combines her knowledge of music with elements from dance, visual arts and movement, helping students understand musical concepts through creative and engaging approaches.

 

Her lessons focus on developing beautiful tone, confident technique, musical expression and a genuine curiosity for music. Paris aims to make learning the clarinet an enjoyable and meaningful experience, encouraging students to build confidence and develop a lifelong connection with music.

 

Whether students are beginning their clarinet journey, preparing for examinations, or working towards advanced performance goals, Paris provides personalised guidance and supportive encouragement to help every student achieve their potential.
